is back in a relationship with FB

Less than forty-eight hours after I said goodbye to Facebook, I was back.

But I learned much from the separation and am glad for the time apart, and glad as well to be back. Why?

  1. By deactivating my account, I learned that I simply can. Facebook does not hold power over me (or rather, I am not powerless over Facebook) after all.
  2. Two Facebook-less nights meant long-term blogging; and it's been a long while since this happened. Although my mom would gently remind me that I deactivated FB to do more work, it is a welcome change, to talk more about God than about me.
  3. Two Facebook-less mornings became the first two mornings that I woke up with the urge to cook! Me, cook! (As opposed to eating...!) It was a burst of creativity, a motivation to start my day, and yes, to look forward to cooking for my family on a regular basis.
  4. I learned that even if I don't want to hear other people, it doesn't give me the right to shut them up. They have the right to contact me even though I'm not yet ready or willing to listen.
  5. On a practical note, Facebook suggested I edit my notifications - now I don't have to be emailed every time a comment, a like, or a poke occurs on my page. I can choose to be updated at the same time I choose to log on.
  6. And I can choose to log on after work hours. Yes, I now work, and go on Facebook afterward
  7. Happily I've discovered that I've reduced my FB time dramatically.
Congratulations to me, and I pat myself on the back. I thank God that this cool-off time has been very fruitful, and that the rehabilitation time was extremely short.

And now, goodbye. Logging off both Facebook and Blogspot. Back to work, the work that God has called me to do, the work that I am finding much joy (again) in doing. :)

  1. Hi Pete...

Are you implying that Facebook is evil?

I believe that Facebook is a tool that can be used for good. Right now there's no better way to reach the rest of the world --- and it can be used for God's kingdom and purposes as well. (In the same way that I use Blogspot and you use YouTube :) )

I agree! Facebook can and is frequently used for God's purposes! My mother in law just prophesied into my husband's life recently, and told him that his ministry right now is on facebook. He posts scripture everyday, almost, and any revelation he gets is online within hours or minutes. Right now we're both fasting media for a week, except for spiritual things, research, etc. so I'm getting a similar experience! We're on day 4 I think, and it feels nice to know I don't need FB. But I can't wait to get back on and talk to people about God and the Bible!

  3. Hello Lauren :) Wow... It truly is a blessing when God reveals His purposes for someone... and the God of All Ages can and does use Facebook too! :) More of God's Spirit and power to you, your husband, your mother-in-law, and the rest of your family! :)
