mercy triumphs over judgment

several renditions of James 2:12-13...

  • New Living Translation:
So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when He judges you.
  • New International version:
Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
  • New King James version:
So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

in (his half-brother) Jesus' own words:

  • For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:2)
  • Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. (Luke 6:37)
